Data Catalog & Governance

Know what data you hold, who owns it, where personal data sits and who used it

Planned · Year 3 (W4)Sold as: Add-onC-150

Data Catalog & Governance is planned to inventory every data asset automatically, keep a business glossary and owners, discover sensitive data and enforce access and purpose policies across Intelligence. It produces a personal data map per person for access and erasure requests.

Answering the auditor's questions

When a regulator, auditor or customer asks where personal data sits and who used it, most companies start a spreadsheet. Data Catalog & Governance, planned for W4 and requiring Data Fabric, is designed to answer from the system itself.

Inventory without manual entry

The catalog harvests assets automatically: app objects and fields, read models, datasets, metrics, dashboards, Knowledge collections, feature sets and models. Each asset has owners and stewards and can carry a certification badge. AI drafts documentation for owner review. A business glossary holds terms, definitions, owners and approval, linked to the metrics and fields that implement them.

Sensitive data and the personal data map

Sensitive-data discovery scans samples for personal, sensitive personal, financial and health-adjacent fields and suggests classifications for a steward to confirm. Lowering a classification is never automated. The personal data map shows where one person's data is held, including derived stores such as embeddings and datasets, as input to access and erasure requests. A retention view per asset shows how erasure would propagate.

Policies that actually enforce

Access policies define column masking, row filters and purpose-based access. They are enforced in BI Studio, Data Fabric, Knowledge and the Data Science Workbench, not only documented. Access requests carry a purpose, approval, expiry and automatic revocation. Consent-purpose tagging checks purpose limitation whenever a dataset or metric is used for a new purpose (DPDP application to be verified with counsel); the policy engine decides, and AI only explains the block.

Lineage and usage

An end-to-end lineage graph is assembled from Data Fabric, BI Studio and Pack manifests. Usage analytics show who queries which assets, which assets are unused and which policy violations were blocked. Export of lineage and metadata in open formats is planned for W5.

Workflow

Classify, govern, prove

  1. 1

    Assets are harvested automatically

  2. 2

Sensitive fields are suggested and confirmed by a steward

  3. 3

Owners and glossary terms are linked

  4. 4

Access and purpose policies are set and enforced at query time

  5. 5

Access requests are approved with expiry

  6. 6

Lineage, usage and erasure evidence are exported for audits

AI

AI skills and Digital Employees

Sensitive-data discovery

Suggests classifications; lowering a classification is never automated.

Auto-documentation

Drafts asset descriptions for owners.

Glossary linking

Proposes links between terms, metrics and fields.

Purpose-limitation explanation

Explains why a new use was blocked; the policy engine decides.

Digital Employees that use this module

They act through the same governed Actions as people; risky steps wait for approval.

Frequently asked questions

Does the catalog only document policies?

No. Masking, row filters and purpose policies are planned to be enforced in BI Studio, Data Fabric, Knowledge and the Data Science Workbench.

Does it make us DPDP compliant?

It provides tools such as purpose tags, personal data maps and erasure evidence. Compliance depends on your processes; verify with counsel.

What does it require?

Data Fabric. It is planned for W4.
