eDiscovery & Legal Hold
Holds, collections and review across mail, chats, drive and AI agent memory
eDiscovery & Legal Hold preserves, collects and reviews electronically stored information for litigation, investigations and regulatory inquiries. Custodians include AI agents and their memory, with defensible chain of custody.
What it does
eDiscovery & Legal Hold is designed to preserve, collect and review electronically stored information for litigation, investigations and regulatory inquiries across Mail, Chats, Drive, business records and agent memory, with defensible chain of custody and human review.
Matters and custodians
Legal matters link to Contracts matters and record counsel, scope, dates and status, restricted to the matter team. Custodians can be persons, users, shared mailboxes, channels and AI agents. AI suggests custodians from Context Graph relations with the evidence behind each suggestion, and counsel confirms.
Holds
A hold is scoped by custodian, source, date range, keywords and object types and is written to the hold registry. Retention and deletion jobs skip held items, verified by tests, and user deletions are preserved. Hold notices go to human custodians by email and in-app, with reminders, acknowledgement tracking and escalation to managers. For agents, memory items and conversation logs in scope are flagged as held, compaction and erasure jobs skip them, and agent retirement is blocked until memory is exported under hold. Releasing a hold is an R4 Action with counsel approval and a second factor; items under other holds stay held and retention resumes with recalculated dates.
Collection and review
At GA, collections gather ESI into an immutable set with hashes, metadata and a chain-of-custody log for every access and transfer. Processing handles de-duplication, email threading, text extraction, OCR and language detection. Review sets support tags, privilege coding, redaction and batch assignment. AI-assisted review offers relevance and privilege suggestions with explanation snippets, a reviewer decides each document, and QC sampling reports agreement between AI and reviewers. Productions export in configured load-file formats with numbering and a privilege log, as an R4 approved Action (formats for Indian courts to be verified).
Scope
Holds on external systems such as Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 are planned for W6, subject to API capabilities. Large-scale production review stays with external eDiscovery vendors where needed, while One3 owns the hold and disposition record. Planned for W5 (Years 4–5).

Frequently asked questions
Can a legal hold cover AI agents?
Yes. Agent memory and conversation logs can be held, and an agent cannot be retired until its memory is exported under the hold.
Does AI decide what is privileged?
No. AI suggests relevance and privilege with explanations; reviewers decide and QC sampling measures agreement.
When is this planned?
